A Portrait of Turtle Island

James Rottman Fine Art is excited to present “A Portrait of Turtle Island”, a celebration of historical Indigenous artists from across Canada. This visual exploration of Ojibwe legends, stories, and visions focuses on two influential Woodland School artists Norval Morrisseau (1931 – 2007) and John Eric Laford (1955 – 2021). The exhibition also highlights notable stonecut print artists from Kinngait (formerly Cape Dorset) such as Pitaloosie Saila, Irene Avaalaaqiaq Tiktaalaaq, and Natsivaar. “A Portrait of Turtle Island” is free to attend. The Art Imperial Gallery held a solo exhibition of the artist’s work in 1983, with original gallery documentation available.
