Link Music Lab’s Polotechnics launches with a special edition in solidarity with the women of Iran, showcasing songs by Iranian women in each live set to honour their voices and the importance of the movement “women, life, freedom.”
The triple threat club night brings the Toronto debut of Sepehr, New York City-based DJ, producer and remixer, familiar of Dark Entries and founder of Shaytoon Records, together with local favourites, curator, promoter and organizer, Ensoul of Pillow Talk fame and Raf Reza, producer and better-half of Orphic Apparition record label.
Expect expressive outsider electronics, psychedelic techno and heady electro by Sepehr, Ensoul’s thick basslines, freaky synths and heavy drum machine workouts with Balearic beats and Raf Reza’s genre-spanning approach to dub, breaks and house styles.
Polotechnics shines a light on international and local artists from the Iranian diasporic underground, shifting and broadening perspectives of Persian electronic music. From high-energy dance beats to contemplative sound art, Link Music Lab’s new series invites a range of genres such as EBM, electro, techno, acid and all things synth. Polotechnics is a portmanteau of “Technics”, the Japanese brand name for a line of high-end audio equipment, the game of polo, an Iranian invention and the Farsi word for rice, also polo, aiming to nourish the soul by expanding perceptions of Iranian electronic music.
