Join us for the fourth installment of the “Voices of Freedom” reading series, proudly presented by the Writers in Exile group of PEN Canada. This time, we shine a spotlight on writers hailing from Tunisia, Kurdistan-Sorani, Turkey, and Syria.

These remarkable individuals, encompassing journalists, novelists, poets, and human rights advocates, have journeyed from lands plagued by oppressive regimes to find sanctuary in Canada. Although their vocations may have taken different forms in their new homeland, their pens remain steadfast, etching tales that symbolize the struggle for the most fundamental of human rights: freedom of expression. In these short stories and poems, they conjure haunting memories, evoke a yearning for their homelands, and explore the promise of a brighter future in Canada. Their words resonate with themes of compromise, reconciliation, and the enduring power of hope and love.
