Toronto’s most innovative comedic opera company, bringing wild, wacky, reimagined classics to audiences of all ages and interests. Delighting audiences since 1964!

Originally a Gilbert & Sullivan Society, The North Toronto Players has blazed the trail for exciting, new takes on classic G&S musicals. The Mikado was set in a Sopranos-inspired New Jersey tavern. The Pirates of Penzance became a 1950s biker gang, and then a 1960’s Mad Men-inspired corporation. Iolanthe was married to a Canadian senator, The Yeomen of the Guard were antiterrorist spies. Ruddigore became a movie theatre where the cursed members of the House of Murgatroyd inspired horror movie villains. Princess Ida moved to ancient Greece, and the HMS Pinafore explored the Star Trek galaxy. In recent years, we have produced all-new original musicals, including Chelsea Moore Castle, Lear Inc., and The Millionaire: A Musical Murder Mystery, staged in our new home venue, The Papermill Theatre.

With 3 smash-hit Canadian originals under our belt, we have returned with the spectacular remount of Chelsea Moor Castle: Or, a Contract to Marry! Downton Abbey meets Hamlet and Oscar Wilde as Chelsea Moor Castle tells a hilarious operatic tale of love, duty, and pedigree, set in a haunted castle full of mischief.
