ORPHANS FOR THE CZAR by George F. Walker

ORPHANS FOR THE CZAR by George F. Walker

Presented by Crow's Theatre at Streetcar Crowsnest

Crow’s Theatre presents ORPHANS FOR THE CZAR, a world premiere by George F. Walker, directed by Tanja Jacobs. "One of theatre’s most important voices” (Maclean’s), this is the first Toronto mainstage production of a George F. Walker play in a decade.

Vasley is an orphan who does not know himself or what he thinks. He is easily persuaded, and susceptible to exploitation, by forces famished for power and control. His very uncertainty creates the possibility for moral individualism and the capacity to change; if Vasley can learn to think for himself. A hapless double agent in St. Petersburg on the eve of Bloody Sunday, Vasley teeters between the revolutionaries and the czarists, captivated by the women, the spies, the intelligentsia, and all their conflicting ideologies.

A high-stakes comedy of pathos and optimism, ORPHANS FOR THE CZAR's plea for decency is more resonant than ever.
