LIVE SUPER 8 PERFORMANCE - Jorge Lozano & Alexandra Gelis

LIVE SUPER 8 PERFORMANCE - Jorge Lozano & Alexandra Gelis

Presented by Southern Currents at Spadina Theatre (Alliance Francaise)

Jorge Lozano culls together a broad range of works which constitute the breadth of Jorge’s artistic vision: be it an implicit exploration of the politics of the day, a poetic rumination of time and space, or the consummation of a two-screen projection of a hyper montage from his archive. Cine Blanc narrates a tale of insurgents in our midst speaking to the politics of the 1980s such as the Red Brigade, the Guerilla Groups, etc., will finally see the big screen since its inception four decades ago. This programme surveys the breadth of Jorge’s vision and leaves us with some food for thought.

Jorge Lozano Lorza is an immigrant artist and filmmaker born in Colombia. He has been painting and filming, and making videos, sound, performance and installation works since he came to Canada in 1971. He has made over 150 movies—works that live not in-between, but within cultures. His work is a reflection of his personal commitment to epistemological disobedience and the investigation of different ways of thinking, feeling and doing.

Jorge’s fiction shorts have been screened at TIFF and Sundance, and internationally at many festivals, museums and galleries. He initiated the Crossing Borders Film Festival, the aluCine Toronto Latin Media Festival and converSalon in collaboration with Alexandra Gelis. Jorge is currently working on several feature-length deliriums, architectural installations and film fetish short forms in Toronto, Ontario, where he lives.

Join us following the event for a reception at Moonlight Lounge (319 Augusta Ave.) to celebrate Jorge Lozano's receipt of the Governor General's Award.
