Our Emergents series opens with two immersive takes on the afterlives of objects.
The first show of this season’s Emergents series is a deep dive into sonic remixing and repurposing, with two interdisciplinary takes on the afterlives of objects.
Part 1 features Toronto percussionist Joyce To performing “The Machines that Hold Us”: a new work by NEL2R (Joyce To x Tyler Cunningham) and artist Sara Maston that fuses together sculpture, improvised music, and machine learning to speculate on future relationships between people and more-than-human entities.
For Part 2, we welcome Montreal percussion quartet Architek and composer Vitalija Glovacktye for WE ARE FOR A WHILE: a 50-minute immersive work that brings new life to broken instruments and lost-and-found machines through sound, stories, and light.
