RyGuy Comedy presents Mental HELLth, a comedy showcase where professional stand-up comedians find the humour in their lived experience with mental health and addiction. I am a comedian, peer support worker, and mental health advocate living with bipolar disorder and ADHD. This show is very near and dear to me, and I am proud to announce that net proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to the CAMH Foundation! Not only is CAMH Canada's largest mental health hospital... It is also the hospital that saved my life. I was admitted to inpatient psychiatric care at CAMH for 7 weeks in the summer of 2020, and even after my discharge, I have continued to receive ongoing care and support, and I wouldn't be where I am today without CAMH. I cannot even begin to repay the immense debt of gratitude that I owe this amazing organization… But this show is my small way of giving back. I, along with all of the comedians, volunteers, and everyone behind the scenes helping to make this show a reality, am THRILLED to be supporting all of CAMH's amazing mental health initiatives! Comedy has also been such a helpful creative outlet to channel my personal struggles with mental health into laughter and healing, and the same is true for all of the wonderfully talented comedians on this showcase! The ultimate goal of Mental HELLth is to provide a safe and supportive environment for both the comedians and the audience to explore sensitive material that will hopefully achieve a similar catharsis for all, while also raising funds for incredible mental health initiatives.
