Pandora Wilhelm: Mini Moccasin Online Workshop

Pandora Wilhelm: Mini Moccasin Online Workshop

Presented by Artscape at Online/Virtual Space

Artscape Atelier, in partnership with Lakeview Village presents the 'The ptsi maskisina (Mini Moccasin)' virtual workshop, led by indigenous artist Pandora Wilhelm from Mulberry Design & Engravings, as part of the Discovery Centre Artists-In-Residence Workshop Series.

This offers participants an opportunity to learn about traditional Indigenous knowledge and clothing while exploring their own creative expression. The workshop is designed for participants to create a contemporary pair of miniature moccasins using natural materials such as seed beads, sinew, suede cording, and soft deer hide.

Participants will start by working with the seed beads to create a simple floral design on the toe piece of the moccasin. After completing the beading, they will then assemble the moccasins for display, creating a unique art piece. Although no prior experience is required, participants will benefit from having some comfort with hand sewing and working with seed beads.

*** Donations:

We are collecting donations for each ticket in honour of Indigenous culture that suggests an exchange from participants/recipients to their knowledge teachers. Since these workshops are being sponsored by Lakeview Village, the artist has advised that participants should instead donate to a cause, for this knowledge exchange opportunity.

Donations will be collected by Artscape through purchasing your Eventbrite tickets and once all workshops have completed this Spring will be donated to Water First: Water First supports Indigenous communities in addressing critical water challenges. You can find out more here: https://waterfirst.ngo/

You are welcome to donate any amount you are able to; pay what you can. We will not be able to send individuals donation tax receipts, since this will be collected and donated through Artscape as a lump sum at the end of the workshops. We appreciate your understanding and will send an email to all participants to note how much was raised and donated in total once all workshops have completed in May 2023.
