The final week of the TONE festival begins June 24 at the Tranzac with the highly anticipated Toronto performance of White People Killed Them—a collaboration between Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and sound artist Raven Chacon, John Dieterich of Deerhoof, and percussionist and installation artist Marshall Trammell. The provocative name calls on the subjectivity of the listener, asserting a polemical sound that roils, resists, or resolves with each individual. The trio create sonic declarations with total abandon, as vaulting electronics are buffeted by scorched guitar and propulsive drumwork. The evening includes two local acts with Not A Band bringing crunchy new wave treats, and Animatist offering polyrhythmic experimental rock formulations.
