Music Director Nurhan Arman will open Sinfonia Toronto's "SCHUMANN & DE FALLA Virtuoso Voyages" concert with the world premiere of a 25th Anniversary celebration by Vache Sharafyan, an Armenian composer acclaimed throughout Europe. The program travels to Germany next, as pianist Antonio Di Cristofano joins the orchestra for a Romantic favourite, the Schumann Piano Concerto.
This festive program presents two guest stars. Mezzo-soprano Beste Kalender will also be featured, singing De Falla's picturesque Seven Popular Spanish Songs, settings of folk melodies from different regions and a lyrical gem, Respighi's "The sunset" - both in beautiful arrangements by Maestro Arman.
The concert will conclude with a major Russian work from the late 19th century, Anton Arensky's Variations on a Theme of Tchaikovsky, a journey through seven beautifully contrasting variations closed by a compelling coda.
