2023 CineFAM Film Festival

Presented by CaribbeanTales at TIFF Lightbox

The films in this year’s festival look at the ways in which women of colour connect, create and thrive. In a time where we are seeing radical changes to the ways in which we as a culture create and consume stories, we look to ways in which our stories will survive us. Who will continue on our legacy? What are the bonds we form today that will create the future we want to see?

Our community has been overrun with stories of trauma and reparation for years. Unlike past generations, we want more than just to survive. We want, and we deserve, to THRIVE.

This year’s CineFAM Film Festival celebrates acceptance, belonging, bold identities and the opportunities we are finally welcoming in to create a joyful, fulfilling future. Join us as we celebrate all that being a woman and non-binary person of colour is about.

Day 1: CineFAM Annual Mixer and Networking Event

A gathering of women and non-binary creators of colour in the film industry, where we exchange stories, foster a sense of community, and offer our unwavering support to one another. It’s the perfect opportunity to connect and collaborate with inspiring creators along with our themed festival nights.

Day 2: The Ties That Bind

As long as the ties that bind us together are stronger than those that would tear us apart, all will be well. So what bonds us? Is it tragedy? Laughter? Love? Connection is a shared ceremony where experience reigns supreme. The films in this series explore the different ways that we forge and honour roots with one another, often in the liminal spaces of our lives.

Day 3: Shifting Identities

Identity is never stagnant, it is always morphing and changing according to an array of factors. The question is not “who am I?” but rather “who do I want to be in the next incarnation of me?”. The films in this program include stories about resilience, joy, cultural acceptance and love. We are never who others tell us to be, we are who we choose to be.
