Come see the timely production of The Trials by Dawn King directed by Andrew Kushnir about the climate crisis, a Canadian premiere and Susan Smith Blackburn Prize finalist at the Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies, University of Toronto.
Were you a big meat eater? How many flights did you take before the special flight restrictions came into effect? Or did you only go green after the laws started changing? Set in the near future, The Trial asks: what does eco-justice look like in the hands of young judges and jurors who have inherited a planet-beyond-repair? Playwright Dawn King’s dynamic ensemble piece puts young people at the helm of a global reckoning, prosecuting our current era for its role in the climate emergency — and not just the “super-polluters” one might expect. First performed at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in 2021 and then the Donmar Warehouse in 2022, The Trials has its first outing in North America at the Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies.
