In association with The Great Escape Book Store we’re happy to present Barry Levinson’s adaptation of Bernard Malamud’s 1952 novel. Post-film Q&A with film critic Bruce Kirkland.
On the way to a tryout with the Chicago Cubs, young baseball phenom Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford) is shot by the unstable Harriet Bird (Barbara Hershey). After 16 years, Hobbs returns to pro baseball as a rookie for the last-place New York Knights. Despite early arguments with his manager, Pop Fisher (Wilford Brimley), Hobbs becomes one of the best players in the league, and the Knights start winning. But this upsets the Judge (Robert Prosky), their owner, who wants Hobbs to lose games, not win.
For those interested, The Great Escape Bookstore will be holding a discussion of Malmud’s novel on April 4 at 7pm at Kingston Road United Church (975 Kingston Road).

Is your theatre accessible? We have a ramp that we can deploy over the three steps leading from the front doors into the lobby. The theatre is accessible from there and we have several spots where we’re able to accommodate a wheelchair. Unfortunately, our washrooms are each down a set of two narrow steps so are inaccessible to wheelchairs.
I have an Access 2 Card, do I have to pay for my PSW?We don’t officially accept the Access2Card program yet, but are working on setting it up. Please send us a message at info@foxtheatre.ca to ensure an additional ticket can be added to your transaction at no charge.
