On November 2nd, 2023, join MAiDHouse at the 918 Bathurst Centre for Culture, Arts, Media and Education from 6 – 9 pm for Art for the Soul: an interactive, in-person event exploring art and space in the contexts of death, MAiD, grief, comfort and healing. Catering for this event is provided and sponsored by Harbour House Grill, in memory of Douglas Kurr.
The central feature of the event will be a panel discussion starting at 6:30 pm, moderated by Stan Byrne and featuring distinguished speakers such as:
– Dr. Chantal Perrot, Past Chair of MAiDHouse and MAiD provider
– Dr. Chen Shen, curator and Vice President of Art and Culture at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)
– Claire O’Donnell, Principal at Parkin Architects
– Sheldon Rose, Toronto art consultant, gallerist, and musician, who will share a story from his own lived experience.
The discussion will explore the importance of space and art to the end-of-life experience — both for those receiving MAiD, and for their supporters and loved ones. The panelists will contribute expertise, insights, and stories to help us think about the impact of space, both physical and meta-physical, at the end of life.
Several interactive activities will also feature at the event, including:
– an installation from the Health Design Studio at OCADU
– a research project from University of Toronto PhD candidate Kristie Serota
– a collaborative thought piece from MAiDHouse
– a take-home house origami activity
In support of MAiDHouse, a silent auction of a variety of art pieces will also be on display, with auction winners announced at the end of the evening. A preview of the art pieces can be found on our website.
Tickets are $25 for general admission, $15 for students and attendees aged 25 and under.
PLEASE NOTE: The event space is accessed via stairs, and unfortunately there are no lifts or ramps.
