Estonian Music Week is back with a full festival format our their 5th anniversary. We’re bringing an eclectic mix of Estonian artists to Toronto and Hamilton for a series of shows from May 24 to 28.
We are partnering with BLOK Slavic Music Meet for for a two-stage extravaganza at St. Anne’s Parish Hall, with Jazz Stage next door at the St. Anne’s church. One ticket gets you access to both stages; while folk music reigns supreme upstairs, join Wavelength downstairs for some ambient, electronic exploration. You can experience all three stages with a day pass.
MARI KALKUN is a musician, singer and a composer relying on her Southern Estonian roots. Inspired by nature, Estonian poetry and folk music, her works create a meditative atmosphere intertwined with the traditional singing – regilaul – and folkore.
”Kalkun’s singing is at the heart of things; joyous and lamenting by turns, but always poised and melodious, her poeticism apparent even without translation. A magical creation.”- Neil Spencer, The Guardian
NASTASIA Y – Born in Ukraine, Nastasia Y (formerly Stacey Y) is an eclectic artist living in Toronto, Canada. She plays keyboards and sings in various styles and languages, and is known for fusing Eastern European folk music with contemporary arrangements, electronic textures, jazz, and other influences from around the world. She released her first album ‘Set The Water Straight’ in English under the stage name Stacey Y. She is the founder & CEO of StereoFlavour Live Entertainment, and she was a featured vocalist in the award-winning show Orphan Black.
ANSAMBEL TRISKELE – Five men who share deep interest in folk hymns, early music and ancient rune singing.
