AFTER SCHOOL  illuminates the inspirational legacy of Mickey Chen, an esteemed figure and trailblazer in Taiwan’s LGBTQ+ community. Set in 1994, nearly three decades before Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage, Chen was instrumental in producing documentaries centred on queer and gender issues, actively participating in street protests advocating for gay and lesbian equal rights. Although he passed away in 2018 before witnessing Taiwan’s significant progress toward LGBTQ+ equality a year later, his legacy remains profoundly influential. In a moving tribute, his protégé, Blue Lan, brings Chen’s story to life in AFTER SCHOOL, making its exclusive premiere in Toronto.
