HOME | a Group Exhibition presented by ArtMatch

***The Exhibition***

Home is one of few ideas in which humans might be able to find universal appeal, and yet it means something slightly different to everyone: a morning routine; a familiar view; a set of memories. Despite it often being tied to something physical, the feeling transcends any specific object. We know that it cannot be forced or purchased, despite phrases such as “make your house into a home” and countless products promising to do so. When you stop asking for it, home simply falls into place.

In this exhibition, we invite artists to present works which capture their myriad ideas of home. Each artist presents it differently; often a single artist has multiple versions of home. Consistent throughout is a sense of familiarity and warmth – a sentiment we can recognize from the many homes we’ve built and left along the way.

In experiencing these works, we hope viewers will bring attention to their own ideas of home in its many forms, beyond the set of walls and furniture we traditionally think of. In a time of transience and displacement, where our most fundamental home is threatened by climate change, perhaps these are the homes we can best rely on.
