Past Present Future L'Arte Che Scompare (the disappearing arts)

This photography exhibition is an exploration of four of the disappearing cultural arts in Italy, some of which are recognized by UNESCO. Emond feels there is a fundamental need to protect and document these fragile cultural arts which form the foundation of our collective historical past and national identity.

Preserving a record of these declining traditions serves as a testimony for future generations, even if no longer practiced, it raises awareness about one’s heritage. The emerging forces of change lead to the disarticulation of cultures, rituals, and mythologies. It is not nostalgia, but pride of place that has to inspire us to keep these traditions alive.
