Join us on October 18th as we celebrate the legacy of yet another Toronto Hip Hop giant … on this night we will come together for a special listening session with K-Cut – record producer and DJ, best known as one third of the New York City/Toronto-based Hip Hop trio Main Source.
After releasing their first independent 12” single “Think”/“Atom” in 1989, Main Source debuted their first full length album “Breaking Atoms” in 1991. That same year, K-Cut’s production appeared on Queen Latifah’s album “Nature of a Sista” and Maestro Fresh Wes’ sophomore album “The Black Tie Affair” which was certified gold in Canada.
In addition to teaching DJ Premier sampling techniques on the E-mu SP-1200, and producing for artists such as Fu-Schnickens, Shaquille O’Neal, Infinite, Citizen Kane, and Choclair, he has also been credited as a songwriter on Madonna’s 1995 worldwide hit “Human Nature” for the use of Main Source’s 1994 single “What You Need” which he produced.
“Producers’ Circle with K-Cut,” the third event of the “We Do It For The Culture: A Hip Hop 50 Event Series,” is co-presented by Roots Rhymes Collective (@rootsrhymescollective), Loop Sessions Toronto (@loopsessionstoronto), Hart House at the University of Toronto (@harthouseuoft), The Urban at York University (@yorkuniversity), CIUT 89.5 (@ciut895fm), The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University (@thecreativeschl) and Never Quantize (@neverquantize).
