Raise your hand if you tend to stick to 3 or 4 grape varieties/wines and ignore all the others that you’re unfamiliar with? Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir…these are some of the most popular red wines – and we love ’em all – but there are SO MANY fabulous wines from a variety of grapes out there and we’re here to take your palate on a tour of 4 of them: Bobal, Braucol, Souson and Barbera D’Asti (bottle shots below).

At this sit-down tasting for 20 guests, we’ll talk about the winery and the grape — it’s history, where it can be found, it’s flavour profile etc. — before getting into the fun of matching it with food.

Jax Hallett is a certified Sommelier through the International Sommelier Guild since 2004 and is a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers. She loves to share her passion for wine, food, and travel, specializing in personal wine tasting events including private, corporate, and charity events.

Priya Rao is the founder of The Social Herbivore, hosting plant-based food & wine events in Toronto and beyond. An expert in ‘vegan wine, she is a contributing writer for Vineroutes and Grapevine Magazine. She’s all about making wine accessible and non-intimidating, and most of all, fun.
