Brandon Steen explores our ever increasing dependence on life approximated through digital screens, comprised of red, green and blue pixelated dots. RGB – LOOK UP challenges the narrative viewer to question their own habits and look up to find red, green and blue in the analogue world we all live in. Inspired by both the overlooked and iconic architectural history of Toronto as well as urban design, typography and the concept of embodied carbon and building preservation.
RGB – LOOK UP will mark the artist’s tenth solo show at the Elaine Fleck Gallery presenting ten new large scale acrylic paintings on birch panels with the introduction of three sculptures will be featured in this engaging exhibition. Through the use of perspective, light and a side of humour he transforms the mundane into thoughtful, immersive paintings whereby the viewer is meant to become part of the art.
Artist Brandon Steen was born in Leamington, Ontario and raised in Toronto. His paintings are highly sought after having sixty-five paintings placed in both private and corporate collections in the past six years. He lives and works in Toronto’s midtown neighbourhood he grew up in, Leaside with his artist wife and their English Bull Terriers.
