When Sisters Speak

Since it’s inception in 2001, When Sisters Speak has become the largest and longest running annual showcase featuring Black women, sharing their life experiences through the art of spoken word.

This is not the poetry we suffered through as students, so prepare to be taken on a roller coaster of emotions, through heartfelt stories, humour, and vulnerability.

Each year, Black women from different places share the stage, to give a broader understanding of what it’s like to be Black in the world that we live in. As people, we grow the most by listening to each other’s lived experiences, and there’s no greater opportunity than listening When Sisters Speak.
