The name Inaabiwin Wiigwaas means Lightning Birch Bark Tree, Siera originally started their craft working with birchbark and hide. Siera than expanded into beadwork and working with gemstones. Siera believes in empowering youth and the Indigenous community. If we want to see a beautiful future, we have to think of the seven generations before us and after us. How can we make a better future? What can we learn from the past?
Indigenous peoples have always been natural traders and entrepreneurs. Pre-colonial contact, we survived generations, years on the land and as a community. We can get back to being a community.
Siera is of mixed heritage, Odawa/Potawatomi from Wiikwemkoong Unceded First nation Reserve and Irish/Dutch. They currently reside in Treaty 13 territory (Toronto).
Siera’s goal is to open an Indigenous Cafe/gift store, to create a safe and fun space for Indigenous folks to sell and create beautiful work. Siera wants to create a community hub to help the Indigenous community and to educate non-Indigenous folks on the many talents and beautiful culture Indigenous folks have. Support Siera on this journey, buy a beautifully handmade piece or donate.
