Coal Mine Theatre presents Jani Lauzon’s Prophecy Fog Directed by Franco Boni
Created and Performed by Jani Lauzon
Directed by Franco Boni
Stage Management: AJ Morra
Environmental Design: Melissa Joakim
From award-winning artist, Jani Lauzon, Prophecy Fog begins with a journey into the Mojave Desert in search of Giant Rock, armed with the question: can a site still be sacred if it has been desecrated?
We encounter a girl in the mountains of B.C. with a pocket full of stones, the rainbow warrior’s prophecy, and a mysterious inscription that obscures our past.
“We come from the stars, we are star people.”
“I am humbled by the lessons I have learned from the stones who are more than my scene partners in Prophecy Fog,” shares Jani Lauzon. “So I asked them. “What do you think about presenting our ceremony in the new COAL MINE Theatre Space?” And they said “YES!”. Because similar to the leadership at the Theatre Centre and Nightswimming who truly understand what it means to support artists, the co-chief engineers, Diana and Ted have created a sacred space in which to present the ceremony we call theatre.”
“The Coal Mine has been trying to get some shows “picked up” by other larger theatres, and though that hasn’t happened yet, we thought we should lead by example: take a great show that has only been seen by a small number of people and give a larger audience a chance to see it. Prophecy Fog is that show. I have known Jani for 40 years, and am thrilled to give our Coal Mine audience a chance to see one of my favourite artists spin her considerable magic. I love this show.” Ted Dykstra
Prophecy Fog weaves together the performance skills of veteran raconteur Jani Lauzon and the expertise of Environmental Designer Melissa Joakim, along with Director Franco Boni to elicit a conscious remembering of ancient prophecies that speak to rock teachings, star beings and earth changes.

The theatre and lobby are located in a sub-basement — accessing it requires descending a flight of twelve stairs. We understand that this barrier may cause concern for our patrons with limited mobility, and apologize for the current lack of accessibility. It will be a priority to make our space fully accessible in the future, but alas because of the way the building is designed it was not financially possible for us to do so at present.
