Through nostalgic melodies and musical delirium, Le Roi poubelle explores loneliness, mourning, hope and the feeling of having to face alone the harmful effects of overconsumption.
On an island made up entirely of trash, Elise, a young shipwrecked documentary filmmaker, meets the enigmatic Roi poubelle (The Trash King), the sole inhabitant and self-proclaimed ‘ruler’ of this drifting mass of plastic.
Through nostalgic melodies and musical delirium, Le Roi poubelle explores loneliness, mourning, hope and the feeling of having to face alone the harmful effects of overconsumption.
The music is composed and played on instruments made entirely from waste and recycled materials. In a playful way, the piece invites the audience to rethink its relationship with its material consumption.
